Social Link Building Services

Why Social Link Building?

Traditional link building still holds value to Google and the major search engines, however many in the SEO industry are starting to see major shifts in the way Google and other top engines are ranking web sites based upon linking strategies.  Social link building, while an emerging link building technology is finally starting to solidify and the search engines have taken notice in a big way.

The reason why social link building is such a powerful link building strategy is that when someone posts a link (commonly referred to as a tag which includes your websites URL and key words) it means that a human being has voted for a site and thus placed value on it.  This is pretty much the holy grail of what Google has always tried to achieve- links that real people have reviewed and find value in.

Where in reciprocal links are only swapped for mutual gain and more than half of one- way links today are bought and paid for, Google now is beginning to focus on links that real humans view and for the most part post because of the value they give to others.

It should be noted that many of the “web 2.0” sites are beginning to receive far more attention from the search engines.  Even though your link is placed on a web 2.0 site (which may or may not be tied to your industry) the important thing to remember is that Google and other search engines are visiting these sites much more frequently and most importantly valuing the links and tags on these sites more than other types of link strategies.  The end result is that because your link is posted on a web 2.0 style site means that these links can and in most cases are being more highly valued by Google and other search engines over other types of link strategies (e.g. reciprocal and paid one way links).

An In Depth Look into Our Social Link Building Service

The Social Link Building Process

Social link building is one of the most promising SEO ranking strategies available.  The largest search engines, such as Google have expressed numerous times in their public relations communications that the components of social link building is part of the very foundation that helps web searchers find on target, highly valuable content.

The process of social link building takes on a two prong approach.  This includes link building and content creation.  Both components are extremely important and are ultimately intertwined with each other.

The Process of Content Creation

There is overwhelming evidence that Google and other quality search engines rank web sites and web pages primarily on content.  Google’s goal has always been to deliver quality content that is highly relevant to what a person is searching for.  Not only is quality content extremely important and critical in helping a web site rank higher, but content must also be regularly updated and for the most part unique.  Before we even start social link building we create high quality content that is optimized for the search engines.

Search engine optimized content means that selected keywords that have been chosen to help a web site rank high in the indexes have been imbedded strategically within the content.  This is usually called “keyword density”.  Keyword density used in each piece of content helps the search engine immediately identify which terms are important on your web page and rank your web pages accordingly.  To the average reader, this content may seem repetitive and not very exciting, however to search engine robots that scour the web looking for fresh content, this type of content is easy to spot and extremely easy to rank accordingly.

Content creation comes in a variety of formats and they include articles, blog entries and press releases.  Each type of content has its strengths in helping a web site rank higher in the search engine index and each type of content is integral to social link building.

Articles- Articles are placed both on the client’s web site and distributed to article distribution sites.  Article distribution sites are where many webmasters go to find articles that are likeminded topics that they then usually place on their website.  Every article that is distributed through this process keeps the back link to the original site (clients website) exponentially increasing the traffic that views information offered by the client site and also linking back to the client’s site which helps greatly in index rankings.

Blogs- Blogs are an extremely powerful way to attract live traffic to your site, promote your products and services and build powerful back links to your web site. With our social link building program, each web site has a dedicated blog set up (which includes original, optimized content) that can greatly help a web site rank high in the indexes.

Each blog is hosted independently on Typepad.com which is a leader in professional blog hosting.  These blogs are highly professional looking and include all the tools necessary to help one promote not only the blog, but a main web site (as is done with social link building).  Search engines such as Google rank blogs extremely favorably, because they usually offer lots of fresh content and they include a social interactive component.  The blogs we set up are updated on a weekly basis with fresh content.  However, the main goal of blog creation is to help bolster the main web site.  Blog entries are always optimized to fit with your web site and include back links to the main web site.  The strategic importance of using a blog is to create a separate authority entity that confirms the importance of the main web site.  This is done through optimized blog entries with specific keywords, back links imbedded within the content and the creation of a self sufficient blog site that can help in the social link building process.

Press Releases- Press releases aren’t quite articles and they are not blog entries; this type of content is categorized as news.  As you may be well aware of, most quality search engines are also some of the largest news aggregators.  Press releases that are created and submitted are usually immediately identified and picked up by the news aggregators.  Since all press releases follow a similar format and include your web site back link and information on products and services, these press releases as an optimization tool can be very powerful.

The Importance of Back Links Embedded Within Content

One of the main reasons that social link building has been so proficient in helping websites rise in the indexes is that over the past couple of years the major search engines such as Google have been moving away from both reciprocal links and paid one way back links.  The search engine’s goal is to help web surfers find quality, relevant, on topic content, while reciprocal links have been helpful in the past to alert search engines to other on topic sites, Google and others have determined that ultimately reciprocal links are not necessarily a good way to find quality content.  In fact, in an article on SearchEngineJournal.com, Google does consider trading and buying links spam.  You can also find lots of evidence on the web and in other top SEO publications where Google has publicly played down the importance of reciprocal links many times in public due to the fact that reciprocal links are not a good gauge of quality content and in most circumstances are only used to help a web site rise in the rankings.

One way back links, while key to helping a web site rise in the rankings also has its problems.  Since one way back links have shown to be such an effective way to rise in the indexes many web developers have resorted to paying for back links.  In fact, a huge industry of paid back links has developed over the years.  Google realizes that paid one way back links is a huge threat to their search engine business, because web sites are not posting one way back links due to quality content, instead to make a buck.  Google has responded over the last year to limit the effectiveness of paid one way back links.  Many SEO gurus have stated that evidence exists that any one way back link that appear to be paid is usually discounted.  Appearance is critical.  For instance, if you have a link on a page listed as resources, a link under the word sponsored by or advertisement, links that are placed in odd places (bottom of pages with no connection to content), etc these links will usually be discounted by Google.

One of the strategies to ensure that your back links are valued by Google is to imbed them within content.  This way the link usually matches the content and the link shows a specific purpose of being posted on the page.  This is where the content portion of social link building excels.  Content that is used in social link building campaigns are always imbedded or connected to quality, highly relevant, optimized content.  This means that your links will be seen as worthwhile to Google and other quality search engines and help your site rank well.

The Link Building Process

Social link building takes many things into consideration and to many web site developers and traditional link builders it may seem quite complex and intensive.  For most web developers that would like to rise in the ranking, the easiest way to do so is to contact other web sites and post a reciprocal link or pay for one way back links on established sites.  Google and top search engines are not blind to this strategy and are extremely aware that this strategy does not help them index quality content, in fact it usually has the opposite effect of indexing garbage or low quality content.  Google and other search engines have reworked their algorithms to easily identify links that are either reciprocal and paid and place a lower value on them.  Instead Google and other top search engines find value in links with the following criteria.

-         Links that are embedded within content

-         Links that correspond with the content they are embedded in

-         Links that are created by individuals and already rated due to their relevance and value

-         Links that are consistent with the web site they are located on

-         Links that are seem organically posted

-         Links that are posted on sites which the content is user generated

Currently, one of the best types of links to have is a one way back link that has been posted by a real human being and given a rating as to its quality and value.  Social link building leverages this type of link by using social book marking sites, social article posting sites, social networks, interactive blogs, etc.  In effect, social link building gives the search engines exactly what they want.  The links are posted by individuals because they have an inherent value and not because another web developer is linking back to them or paying for the privilege of being posted.  In addition, each link is allowed to be verified and voted on its importance by a social community.  This reduces a lot of the guessing by major search engines and this is the main reason why search engines can justify preferring or adding additional value to links which fall into the realm of social link building.

First Step in Social Link Building:  Research

Before any links are posted, extensive research must be done to create a social link building strategy.  There are many considerations; however one of the most important criteria’s to consider is to identify highly effective social-type sites to place social links on.  This first includes the link builder to immerse him or herself in the social networking community and understand the dynamics of social link building.  Unlike traditional link building, the immediate value of the link is not the guiding principle.  For instance, for a traditional link builder, your goal is to find a high PR site that has a similar topic.  However, in social link building, your goal is three fold, find social sites that fit the social link building criteria, which includes finding sites that are attracting a large social community and that allow links to be evaluated by humans.  Offer a way for your links to grow organically around the internet and involve a component where a link builder can tailor links and to some extent control the links or content that is posted.

During research, social link builders are not only finding new social networks, web 2.0 sites and social book marking sites, but also keeping up to date on the latest innovations and information emerging from other link builders.  Social link builders are usually more than happy to share many of their techniques with others in the field.  In fact, because the search engines are so secretive about their technologies, in many ways it is the most important way to enhance your link building effectiveness.

Social Link Building Site Considerations

As stated above, there are many criteria that one should look for in a quality social link building site.  This can include the following:

-         The site is indexed in the top search engines

-         The site has a decent page rank (usually 3 or better)

-         The site is receiving traffic consistently (you can usually determine this by the amount of members, the manner in which articles are being posted, etc)

-         If other social link builders are using the sites to build links on

-         If you see that a site over a period of several months has helped create links that are showing up on Google and other search engines

-         If a site focuses on a specific topic that corresponds to your web site (for instance, if you have are building links for a rock band and you found a social networking site that focuses on music).

-         If the site allows you to post your link in full, allows you to create keywords, a summary, etc all of which can help search engines associate key phrases to your site and index them respectively

-         If the site is optimized for search engines to view content and links (some sites mainly personal blogs usually add a code to block both the search engines from viewing sites that are liked to as well as stopping  others from adding content or commenting on content.  This feature is usually put in place to stop spam.)

-         Sites that are user friendly, etc

Placing Links on Social Sites

Placing links on social sites is usually very time consuming and has more to do with grunt work than with intensive analysis and research.  However, that being said each time a link is placed there are many things that the link builder must observe to ensure that the links will be productive.

-         It is important to choose keyword, keyword phrases and specific web pages to link back to.  Your goal is to build links that on the surface look organic and placed due to the fact that the site has quality content, but your real goal is to effectively create an impressive web of authoritarian social sites that all point back to your web site for a specific type of information (your keyword topics)

-         There are several types of social sites, as explained above and each uses a different strategy.  For instance for social book marking sites, your goal is to create a back link to a specific web page and then associate it with several keywords.  In addition, on most social book marking web sites you can also rate the site in which the link points to.  On social news sites such as Digg.com, quality content should be used to anchor your link.  In addition, you should write a snappy and informative title and description to spur interest on traffic that has the opportunity to view your article.  On web 2.0 sites such as tagacloud.com it is not necessarily the description that is important at all, but the choice of keywords that you choose.  Tagacloud and other tag cloud sites rely on simple words to drive traffic and importance.  For instance, a person searching tagacloud.com for music will not enter a long list of keywords as search terms, but will click on a specific keyword or keyword phrase that is close to their goal (e.g. movie soundtrack).

-         Validating social links is also an important part to the social link building process.  It is not enough to go through the motions of creating links, you must make sure that these links are up and available for humans, as well as search engine robots to see.  Most social networking sites make it easy to find the actual web page in which your link is posted on.  Some social networking sites make it much more difficult to find where your back link is permanently posted.

In addition to the above mentioned process, it is important to note that most sites require a link builder to register for an account.  In order to do this you must create a username, password and have an active email address. While in the long run this can make administration more organized and effective, it can be extremely time consuming at the time of creation.  In addition, the link builder must be extremely savvy not to constantly link to the same web page.  Many sites monitor members for spam.  Besides just posting links, the link builder from time to time must actively use the site in question and submit other (sometimes off topic) content and web sites.

An important note about social link building:  Traditional link building relies on finding similar niche sites to post links on, in social link building; this is not as important or in most cases not important at all.  In fact, Google understands that social networking sites, book marking sites and other web 2.0 sites are about community and sharing relevant, high quality information.  Therefore you are not penalized for posting an article regarding a specific niche service on a general social networking site that on the service looks like it has nothing in common with your site.

Analysis

After all the links and content have been posted, the strategy continues with constant tweaking to enhance the effectiveness of the campaign over time.  This includes comprehensive analysis.  Comprehensive analysis includes tools such as Google Analytics, Yahoo Search Site Explorer and other high powered analytical SEO tools to determine what links are being created, the effectiveness of each link and campaign and ways in which to improve the efficacy of the social link building campaign.

Putting it All Together

The entire social link building package including the article creation, blog creation, blog entries, press releases, article submissions, press release submission, link building, research, analysis, etc works together to maximize your web site index rankings.  Social link building, while an emerging technology has been hugely successful at helping web sites reach their ranking goals and delivering lots of traffic to their site.  While one strategy alone usually has a positive effect on the search engines, used together in a multi prong strategy has been proven highly effective.  One thing most SEO gurus are convinced of is that social link building is not a fad, but an effective strategy for long term web site optimization.
